My Flyers Mid Season Review

Posted on: January 27, 2008 6:06 pm

My Flyers mid-Season review, probably nothing new here that you didn't already know yourself if you're a Flyers fan.

I was pretty sure that the Flyers would rebound from last season and become a competitive team again, after all the changes they made over the off-season. But I'm amazed at how fast this team has come around. Tied for first in the division, which is probably the toughest division in all of sports, and they did it without Gagne for most of the games. The offense is clicking and the goaltending is decent and will probably only get better with more time. Mike Richards is playing amazing and looks to be the future leader of the Flyers. Briere has played pretty good too, especially considering that it was going to be him, Gange and Knuble on the same line, and he has still racked up some decent points while Gagne was injured.

The Flyers had me a little worried after falling pretty hard around Christmas, but have since rebounded and have played great this entire month. That tells you something about this team. They didn't come out and win a couple games here and there after that losing streak, they came out and won 10 games out of 13, amazing. Overcoming adversity in that kind of form really builds character for this team, and will do nothing but help them come playoff time.

Last year, the Flyers finished the season with 56 points. Right now, they have 59 points, with 34 games to play, can't ask for a much better turn around than that.

At this point, I don't think that this team is ready to win the Stanley Cup just yet, I'm thinking the Flyers will make it to the Semi-Finals this year. They still have some flaws that need to be fixed, the defense mostly.

However, the second half of the season is what makes or breaks a team, if they play well down the stretch they may just be closer to that Cup than we think.

Regardless of what happens this season, the real matter is that this appears to be a team that is going to be a contender year in and year out again. Let's just hope that they come away with a Cup this time.

I hope that the 1 or 2 people who read this at least semi-enjoyed it.

GO FLYERS!

My Flyers Mid Season Review

I agree with you for the most part. People keep suggesting a trade is imminent but I don't see it happening. If Forsberg Signs with us I would be surprised. I think we need help defensively. I watch every game and it seems like we are just too inconsistent in our own end. It puts too much pressure on the goalies. If we fix that I think the Semi's is a possibility. But that means we win 2 series' prior. There are a lot of good teams and no great teams in the east, so it could happen. I mean we beat Ottawa and Lose to the Devils, We beat Pit and Lose to the Rangers. We scored 10 goals in the victories and allowed 11 in defeat. That is my point. I pray we make a trade but to get better on the blue line not up front.

Just my 2 cents

My Flyers Mid Season Review

For the first time in my life i am actually watching the flyers and expecting them to win instead of waiting to see how they are gonna lose this time around.   Are they gonna get whipped by Buffalo......are they gonna blow a 3-1 lead in the Conference Finals to the Devils.......are they gonna break our heart in game 7 of the conference finals to Tampa after winning game 6 in truely dramatic fashion.  Are they gonna get to the Stanley Cup only to get whipped by the Red Wings?

I am hoping that this year is different.  Like I said, I have seen resolve on this team that I have never seen before.  We dont choke away a 3-1 series lead and then WIN game 7 in OT.  We dont blow multiple 2 goal leads and then win in the 3rd period.  Thats not the Flyers that I know!!!

Man I hope this year is different. The team needs it, the city needs it, the fans need it.  Not to mention I got the Flyers going off at 17-1 at the begining of the playoffs....so I need it too!

My Flyers Mid Season Review

Right on with all the points and you get a pass for picking the orange and black to make the semi's in the playoffs cause nobody could have seen this run coming.  You build quality teams down the middle and the Flyers are pretty well set up with Richards, Carter, Briere, and Biron.  Would love to see them add a sniper to play with Briere.  Prospals playing well but he looks like he's skating in mud most of the time and I think Briere needs someone who can fly out there with him.  Gagne would be perfect but his concussions remind me of Lindros and Preems all over again.  i think his eggs are scrambled and he might be done.  As far as the defense goes, Parent is going to be good back there for a long time and his going to be ready soon.  That sets up as Coburn(a stud), Parent, Jones, Timo(for a few more years hopefully) as the core.  Now if we could add a solid stay at home and puck carrier we'll be set up to battle with the Pens for the Eastern crown for the next 5 year or so.  Now lets go Flyers in the Conference Finals
